Canaan does not have an awesome plot, it's not where its focus is, but it could have helped if a little more attention were expended in this department. While the story moves forward after the sixth episode, it leaves too many blank spots and the weak characters do not help to bring a decent conclusion. The plot lacks loads of explanations and is developed within a thick mist, leaving you unaware of why things are happening. This concept could deliver something good, but it never happens.
The base ground for the plot is fairly simple: older-mad disciple against newer-weak disciple. Canaan is very simple and unispiring, it brings some enjoyable moments and nice animation, but lacks a bit in everything else, from the non-explored and non-explained plot to the poor characters and over-use of sexuality where it does not fit.
The steroetypes, the way the story is approached, the heavy focus on action and the (lack of) maturity of the characters all fall to a shounen area, but this is the least of the concerns. It's a genre that lost part of its appeal due to the repetition these shows gave us, but it can prove a decent experience for those who are new to this combo of cute girls in gunfights.įirst of all, Canaan definitely is not an anime intended to older men.
